A. G. 'Bob' FRISBY, Lieutenant, SAAF

Killed in Action, Korea, 22 June, 1951

Lieutenant Bob Frisby was leader of a flight of four who were pre-briefed to conduct an armed reconnaissance mission just north of Hanp'o-ri. His No. 3 was Commandant R. F. Armstrong. Frisby flew at between 800 ft. and 2500 ft., and he reached a position roughly four miles NW of Sibyon-ni. Frisby called to say that he had been hit, and that he was baling out at a height of 1000 ft. west of Sibyon-ni. The aircraft canopy was seen to fly off and a brown object fell from the crippled aircraft. No parachute was seen to open and no sign of the pilot was found during an air search. It would appear the the pilot had baled out successfully but his parachute failed to open. Armstrong and another of the pilots, Lt. de Johgh, searched the area thoroughly but without success. The pilotless aircraft continued to fly, turning left and gradually losing height until it struck flat ground near a river where it was demolished upon impact. Armstrong and another flight of four aircraft returned later and undertook another search for Lt. Frisby without success.
