H. G. 'George' KROHN, Lieutenant, SAAF

Killed in Action, Korea, 24 November, 1951

2nd Lieutenant Grobler was briefed to lead a rail interdiction mission at YD-4858 with Lt. van der Spuy as No. 2 and Lt. Krohn flying as No. 3. Krohn temporarily aborted his take-off due to a radiator defect and pulled off the runway. He was delayed ten minutes in taking off, then tried to catch up with his flight. He was later observed by two American flights, trying to catch up to join with his flight. After his earlier flight had completed their bombing run he was heard to say on the R/T that he was going in on the attack with the Americans. He went in with an USAF flight and his bombs were seen to explode. The last American off the target reported seeing a lone "Cheetah" Mustang heading south, but nothing more was ever seen or heard of Lt. Krohn or of his aircraft.
