L. W. 'Jimmy' PARSONSON, Lieut., SAAF

Killed in Action, Korea, 6 January, 1952

Lieutenant Parsonson was briefed to lead 'A' Flight on an interdiction mission, No. 1803. En route to the target area, which was to be an attack on a railroad yard at YC4394, Parsonson was informed that his No. 4 man had engine problems and he instructed him and No. 3 to return to base.

Another 'Cheetah' flight, led by Major Lyon was also on the same target mission, and Parsonson requested permission to join him as his flight had been reduced to two aircraft. This was agreed to.

They attacked the primary target as a flight of six aircraft and proceeded to the secondary target at CT8665 (NE of Kumsong) which they attacked with rockets and .50" calibre machine guns.

Lieutenant Parsonson, who was flying at No. 5 position, called over the R/T to report that he was hit, and was instructed to fly south. Before he could reach friendly lines he reported that he thought he was on fire, and shortly thereafter he crashed. The flight searched the area of the crash for a parachute or any sign of life, without success.
